PRAYING FOR POPE LEO XIV

INTRODUCTION

On October 11, 2026, Pope Leo XIV concluded his Sunday Angelus Address with the unsettling announcement that he would undergo surgery to remove a nodule in his right lung. Two days later, the nodule and the lower lobe of that lung were removed. A biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma, a common lung cancer. Our fellowship joins with believers and people of goodwill around the world in praying for the good health and complete recovery of the Holy Father. We invite you to pray with us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:

A SCRIPTURAL LITANY FOR THE SICK

Be strong and be brave.
Do not be afraid or dismayed.
The Lord, your God will be with you
wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).

The Lord is my shepherd.
I shall want for nothing.
I fear no evil, for you are beside me (Psalm 23).

God is our refuge. God is our strength.
God is an ever present help in our distress.
The Lord of hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our stronghold (Psalm 46).

Bless the Lord, my soul.
My entire being, bless God’s holy name.
Bless the Lord, my soul.
Do not forget God’s blessings.
He forgives all your sins.
He heals all your diseases (Psalm 103).

Come to me,
all who are weary and overburdened.
I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).

I am with you always
until the end of the world (Matthew 28:20).

I am the living bread that came down from heaven.
Whoever eats this bread will live forever (John 6:51).

I come so that you may have life,
and have it in abundance (John 10:10).

I am the resurrection and the life.
Whoever believes in me, though he dies, will live.
Whoever lives and believes in me
will never die (John 11:25-26).

Do not let your heart be troubled.
Trust in God. Trust also in me (John 14:1).

A PRAYER OFFERED POPE LEO XIV

Let us raise our prayers
to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Health of the Sick,
asking her to assist all who suffer
and all who need our compassion,
consolation, and listening ears.
Let us seek her intercession with this ancient prayer
that has been invoked in families
for those living with pain and illness:

Sweet Mother, do not part from me.
Do not turn your eyes away from me.
Walk with me at every moment.
Never leave me alone.
You always protect me as a true mother.
Obtain for me the blessings
of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
