Dawn to Dusk Rosary & Retreat
September 8th–September 12th
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the Assisi Project and our beloved home parishes in the Catholic Community of Gloucester & Rockport (Massachusetts) have done whatever we can to protect the health and safety of our friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners; and provide free and high quality spiritual nourishment online. So far this year, more than 25,000 people have visited the Assisi Project’s website from all around the world! More than 15,000 people have listened to our new podcast series! Our podcasts are now easily the most popular program and ministry in the Assisi Project’s thirteen year history as a Fellowship of Franciscans in Spirit!
As we enter into the final weeks of this strange and surreal summer season, we would normally be planning our Annual Fall Day of Prayer and also our Annual Fall Pilgrimage to Assisi. But these are not normal times. Unfortunately, both of these programs have been canceled by the pandemic. In our deep disappointment, we turned to the Blessed Mother for advice and consolation:
Let us entrust to the Virgin Mary,
our trials and tribulations,
together with our joys and consolations.
Let us beg her to look upon us with love,
especially during times of trial,
and make us worthy of beholding,
today and always,
the merciful face of her son, Jesus! Amen!
This prayer by Pope Francis inspires us to announce our first-ever Virtual Summer Retreat: The Living Rosary from Tuesday, September 8th through Saturday, September 12th. From the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary through the Feast of the Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we will gather in a virtual but powerful spiritual communion for five consecutive days to pray a Living Rosary every half-hour from dawn until dusk; and we will reflect on the Blessed Mother’s powerful prayers for our suffering world.
Each day, all are invited to join us in praying (in safety and solitude of your own home) a Living Rosary for the special intention of God’s mercy, healing, and protection from the coronavirus in half-hour blocks from 6:00am until 7:00pm, thus ensuring a constant chorus of prayer rising to heaven throughout the day for this all-important intention. So far, we are happy to announce that the following friends and fellow parishioners, ranging in age from 35 to 95, will be joining our Living Rosary from all around the world:

More than 100 people from around the world are praying the Living Rosary! These friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners hail from Holy Family Parish and Our Lady of Good Voyage Parish in the Catholic Community of Gloucester & Rockport; along with friends from Manchester, Marblehead, and Woburn in Massachusetts; from Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland; and from the Bronx in New York City. Special thanks to our dear friends, the Sisters of Saint Bridget of Sweden in Assisi and the Rosary Group from Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Woburn, Massachusetts who are all praying with us, too!
In addition to this dawn ’til dusk Living Rosary, Cliff Garvey will offer five daily audio reflections (approximately 10-15 minutes each). These podcasts about the Blessed Mother and the Holy Rosary will be posted here at 9:00am every morning from Tuesday, September 8th through Saturday, September 12th. Our virtual summer retreat will conclude on Saturday, September 12th at 7:00pm when Father Jim Achadinha, our pastor and a co-founder of the Assisi Project, will celebrate Holy Mass and renew the Solemn Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary via YouTube, thus placing our fellowship and our home parishes in the Catholic Community of Gloucester & Rockport under her powerful protection during these troubled times.
Our Virtual Summer Retreat: The Living Rosary is a unique opportunity to join together in a worldwide spiritual communion to pray for our families, friends, and neighbors; our parishes and local communities; our divided country; our wounded church; and our sick and suffering world. Spread the word! Please join us! All are welcome! If you would like to join our Living Rosary & Retreat, please contact Cliff Garvey at cgarvey@assisiproject.com.
